Law School Participates in and Co-hosts the 2019 South-South Human Rights Forum

News online (Correspondents: Zhou Yating, Cui Shihuan, Dou Jiayue) From December 10 to 11, the 2019 South-South Human Rights Forum jointly hosted by the State Council Information Office and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was held in Beijing, with the theme of "Diversity of Civilizations and the Global Development of Human Rights". The Parallel Session III of the forum was co-organized by Law School of our university. More than 300 people, including representatives, experts and scholars from over 80 Asian, African, and Latin-American countries as well as international organizations gathered in Beijing for the in-depth communications upon the topics of the choice of the path of human rights development, global human rights governance, the Belt and Road Initiative's promotion of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and the practice and experience of the human rights protection.

Huang Kunming, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, Secretary of the Secretariat and Director of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, delivered an important speech at the conference. He pointed out that respecting and protecting human rights is an important achievement of human civilization and a consistent pursuit of the Communist Party of China and Chinese government. The Communist Party of China has always regarded the pursuit of happiness for the people as its original aspiration, and the socialist system with Chinese characteristics has always taken safeguarding the interests of all the people as its fundamental task. China adheres to the integration of universality and particularity of human rights, and persists in promoting development through cooperation and promoting human rights through development, so as to constantly improve the sense of happiness, sense of gain and sense of security for all people. Under the new situation, developing countries should work together to maintain a peaceful and stable environment for human rights development, create diversified models for human rights development for a vision of balanced and full development of human rights with improved, fair and reasonable global human rights governance, so as to contribute to the global human rights advancement and the construction of a community with a shared future for mankind.

Law School of our university was appointed to co-organize the Parallel Session III of the forum with the theme of "The Right to Development: The Belt and Road Initiative Promotes the Realization of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development", in which more than 50 people, including diplomatic envoys, officials of the Human Rights Commissions, human rights representatives, officials, experts, scholars, and representatives of the media from 26 countries participated in the discussion. After the in-depth discussions and communication, the participants at the conference reached a consensus that the Belt and Road Initiative has been playing an active role in promoting the agenda for sustainable development and advancing the development of the countries along the routes of Belt and Road Initiative to realize human rights, contributing China's path and wisdom for the realization of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable development.

Distinguished professor Wang Xigen, Changjiang Scholar, Dean of Law School of our university and President of Institute for Human Rights Law delivered a speech entitled "The Contribution of China's Human Rights Civilization to the Global Development of Human Rights—the Contribution of the Belt and Road Initiative to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development", and made a concluding speech at the closing conference of the Parallel Session III.

It is known that our university attached great importance to the organization of this forum, and established a leading group composed of Xu Xiaodong, vice President of our university, Liu Jiuming, director of the Liberal Arts Department, Nie Qingbin, Secretary of the CPC committee of Law School, and Wang Xigen, Dean of Law School. Xu Xiaodong presided over the special meeting to deploy relevant work for the special working group consisting of more than 20 people, including teachers, doctoral students and master students of Law School. From the visit and study in Shanghai and Hangzhou to the organization of the forum in Beijing, our Law School has provided superb service in a responsible manner and at a professional level for the preparation and service for the forum with high quality, ensuring the smooth progress of the forum. The success of this forum also laid the foundation for further expanding the global reputation of our Law School.
